Imphal, March 26: Seeking the people's pardon for the Heirok tragedy on March 24 in which two young girls were killed while another was injured, the proscribed PREPAK today said that it fully shares the grief and pain of the bereaved family members and assured that it would extend all possible help.

The two girls, Laishram Nirmala (20) daughter of L Thambou of Heirok Part I Heituppokpi Maning Leikai and Thokchom Promila (18) daughter of Th Mohan of Heirok Part I, Heituppokpi were killed in the tragic incident that occurred at around 10.30 pm during a Thabal Chongba festival at Heirok Part I Heituppokpi.

Another young girl, Phijam Rebika daughter of P Inaobi of Wangjing Tairenbikhok was injured in the incident.

Explaining the series of events that preceded the incident, PREPAK in a statement issued by the secretary in charge of department of publicity and propaganda, Aheiba Angom, said that three/four cadres of the outfit were detailed for duty to bring in one Th Romesh from the site of the Thabal Chongba for some questioning.

The statement said that PREPAK has been on the look out for Romesh since he has been reportedly working against the outfit to 'avenge' the death penalty awarded to his elder brother, Thokchom Katao alias Premjit in May 2007 .

Katao was eliminated as he was a reactionary, said the outfit.

Even as the cadres of the outfit accosted him, Romesh grappled with the armed cadres and in the ensuing melee, a gun went off accidentally leading to the death of the two girls, explained the outfit.

Expressing deep anguish over the deaths of the two girls as well as the injuries inflicted on others, PREPAK said that it has been trying its best not to cause any collateral damage in its fight against the Government of India.

Despite this, such unfortunate incidents do happen because they have to counter the move taken up by the Govt, traitors, betrayers etc, it explained.

However this is not an attempt the justify the incident, it asserted.

The outfit also assured the people that it would try its best to ensure that civilians are not hurt or injured.
