Imphal, May 25 2009: Citing the recent case of the killing of Satish, the proscribed UNLF has accused security forces including police commandos of indulging in numerous cases of fake encounters.

A press release issued by the outfit's senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba asserted that the people of Manipur are being repressed with excessive measures under the alien rule.

The recent episode of the abduction of Loitongbam Satish alias Tomba and Pebam Gunindro on May 16 by suspected security personnel and subsequent claim of the killing of Satish on May 18 at Laikot Ching in an encounter followed by the hand over of Gunindro alive to police the next day with the report that he was arrested from Laikot Ching for being a PLA cadre was a clear testimony of the fact that security forces were behind several criminal activities, the outfit alleged.

The murderous instinct of security forces towards Manipuri people was exposed by the threat of 23 AR who even reminded about the shocking case of Manorama to Gunindro that he would be killed if he dare to tell the truth to the public, Yoiheiba said.

Asserting that more than 200 people have been eliminated in the last six months at the rate of 1/2 people every day by security forces including police commandos, the UNLF accused security forces of making false claims/propaganda by dubbing the eliminated individuals as cadres of one UG group or another even as majority of the victims were either innocent civilians or retired/settled UG cadres.

Protest movements launched by the people on regular basis were a clear indication about the falsity of the claims of security forces.

In almost all these cases of alleged encounters, the victims were picked up either from their homes or neighbourhood or roads or work places before they were eliminated at some other places in alleged encounters, the UNLF said.

Even as the puppet Government has been making intensive propaganda budding all the victims as UG cadres, the people are well aware that the victims were not UG cadres.

Although commando personnel involved in the abduction of Khwairakpam Megha of Naorem Leikai have been sentenced jail, the State Government has been unable to raise a single voice against the Assam Rifles who were allegedly equally involved in the whole plot.

Though they claimed to have arrested Megha from Moreh as a PLA cadre.

Of the many civilians shot dead by security forces at Moreh after picking them up from Imphal, there were some retired MPAs, it conveyed.

For the continuous killing of civilians by security basis in alleged fake encounters, Chief Minister O Ibobi should be held accountable, it asserted.

The reported statement of O Ibobi that no insurgents, their families, relatives and acquaintances would be spared has emboldened the security forces to go on with the killing spree, the outfit alleged.

As he has been pocketing crores of rupees sanctioned by the Government of India to suppress the liberation movement, Ibobi did not flinch a little to the vocal and persistent protest movements launched by the public against killing innocent civilians, it alleged.

It further exhorted the public to streamline and converge the different civil movements to make a strong and forceful one.

People should teach a befitting lesson to those corrupt political leaders including Ibobi, it added.
