DPA nothing to do with polls: Chaoba

Imphal, March 25: Declaring that the formation of Democratic People's Alliance (DPA) had nothing to do with elections, former MP and president of Manipur Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party Th Chaoba Singh reiterated that the BJP would pocket both the Parliamentary seats in the State.

Speaking to newspersons at the Old Lambulance office of the BJP, today evening Th Chaoba said DPA was formed to coordinate Opposition party activities in the Manipur Assembly and the alliance should not be dragged into election matters.

Even though DPA could not decide on candidature for the upcoming polls the alliance leaders are nevertheless striving to find a consensus candidate for the two Parliamentary constituencies of Manipur, he stated in reply to a question whether the BJP has severed links from the DPA.

Elaborating on the party's poll strategy, the seasoned politician said the BJP workers would maintain close contact with the electorates through house to house campaign to highlight achievements of the NDA Government in the Centre.

Compared to the BJP successes, failure of SPF Government in all front would be adequately presented to the State populace, Chaoba maintained.

He also strongly condemned the State Government for non-implementation of Central sponsored projects and failing to maintain financial discipline as a result of which State Government leaders have to frequently visit Delhi with the begging bowl for aid.

In contrast to the positive development in the relationship with neighboring countries of China and Pakistan through endeavors of the NDA Government and several welfare measures for the aged citizens SPF Government has been lagging behind in all spheres, he charged.

Not only has the SPF Government failed to address distress of the State public in terms of improving and expanding earning scope the people have been burdened with hike in taxes like in power and water which are the basic requirement for survival in a modem society, Chaoba said.

Such anti-people policies of the SPF Government would be elucidated to the electorates based on which the people's last hope to overcome the perilous situation would solely depend on the BJP, added Chaoba.

He also announced formation of a 250 election management and campaign committee of the BJP Manipur Pradesh to ensure election of party candidates in the Outer and Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituencies.

The fact that the committee comprises of 35 representatives from the Muslim community and 25 from the hill areas vividly illustrates that BJP is not a communal political party but envisage all round development of the people, he claimed.

Separate election campaign committees to oversee poll arrangement for the 32 assembly segments in the Inner, 20 in the hill districts, seven in Thoubal dist and for Jiribam assembly constituency have also been constituted, Chaoba stated adding that BJP's prospect has further brightened with the joining of 15 prominent figures of hill areas to the party.

He also announced joining of former Minister and MSCP vice president Md Allaudin of Lllong Turel Ahanbi to the BJP fold along with several numbers of workers loyal to the son of former CM Md Alimuddin.

Chaoba also contemplated fifty percent voters of around 70,000 State Muslim electorates to vote for BJP candidate during the elections while informing that BJP Minority Cell will organise a conference soon exclusively for the minority Muslim.
