Keishampat firing, injuries decried

Imphal, July 21: Shop owners of Keishampat Junction and local residents of Keishampat area staged sit-in-protest against the shoot-out that took place at the crowded location last evening during which two persons were gunned down by police commandos and five civilians suffered gun-shot wounds.

During the protest hour shops in Keishampat Junction downed shutters and joined at the protest demonstration.

Placards and banners denouncing indiscriminate firing at public places, punishment of those involved in the firing, adequate financial assistance to the injured and voicing strong objection against increasing gun culture were put up by the protestors.

Meanwhile, identity of one of the two individuals shot dead by a team Imphal West district police commandos (in civies) has been established as Ningombam Khogen (43) s/o (L) Meri Singh of Ithai Barrage in Bishnupur.

According to family sources, Khogen left home on July 19 to visit his daughter who is studying here and had been staying at a rented quarter in Keishampat area.

They also contended that Khogen was arrested by security force on an earlier occasion due to alleged misinformation.

Identity has also been established of the individual shot dead by Thoubal police commandos at Yairipok Khoirom Laimang yesterday afternoon.

The deceased is said to be one Laishram Nanao alias Premkanta (23) s/o Manglem of Yairipok Yambem.

Nanao was a KCP (MC) cadre who joined the armed outfit about a year back.

The body has been handed over to family members after the post mortem at Lilong Primary Health Centre today.
