Imphal, June 20: Unidentified gunmen reportedly opened fire several rounds near the Samurou residential gate of MLA of Wangoi A/C Salam Joy at around 11 pm yesterday.

Eight bullet holes have been detected on the gate of the MLA's house, though none of his family members were injured in the attack.

Condemning the attack, MLA Joy, who expressed surprise over such unwarranted attacks, clarified that he had not received any monetary demand or threat from any UG groups.

In connection with the attack, DGP Y Joykumar accompanied by SP Imphal West and SDPO reportedly visited the residence of the MLA this morning even as a large number of womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at Samurou Bazar decrying the attack and demanding to know the reason behind the attack at the MLA's house.
