Transporters appeal to drivers not to ply NH 39

Imphal, June 18 2010: Transporters' and Drivers' Council today once again appealed to the drivers and vehicle owners not to ply NH 39 even if the NSF, ANSAM and UNC lift the economic blockade on the highway and paramilitary forces deployed on the route.

General secretary of the Council, Ng Haridas stated that the Central government was delaying in intervening to end the economic blockade on the national highways imposed by the Naga bodies.

He also drew the attention of the Centre to deploy the security forces on NH 53 and speed up the works for improvement of the highway.

The statement also urged all section of the society and civil bodies to press them to resume plying NH-39 .

Claiming that a Tata 407 mini truck transporting goods belonging to a Marwari trader of Imphal market was smashed by the supporters of the Transporter's and Driver's Council's last night for allegedly violating the decision of the council, the statement also cautioned traders of Imphal market not to invite such act which would compelled to act violent action in future.
