Imphal, May 16 2009: The proscribed KYKL has condoled its six cadres killed in a gun-fight with a combined security team at Koutruk hills yesterday morning.

The slain cadres were Leishangthem Simon (19) s/o L Budha of Koutruk Ching Leikai, Angom Ngongo alias Priojit s/o A Subash of Phayeng Awang Leikai, Keisam Sanatomba alias Rabi alias Rosan (31) s/o late K Tomba of Lamsang Heibongpokpi, Mayengbam Chaothoi (23) s/o M Narhari of Kakching Lamjao Part-II, Tezpur Awang Leikai, Angom Guni (28) s/o A Langbanjao and Angom Amuthi (19) s/o A Priyokumar of Phayeng Ching Khunou.

A press release issued by KYKL's deputy secretary of publicity and research Apabi Mangang informed that all the six cadres were working as militia under its militia unit.

The unfortunate incident which cost lives of the six cadres took place on the return journey after rescuing Rosan s/o of CAU Dean Dr Naorem Iboton, who was allegedly abducted by some agents of security forces on May 11 demanding a huge amount.

On receiving specific information that Rosan was being held captive in the surrounding areas of Senjam-Chirang, Khurkhul and Koutruk, KYKL militia units operating in the area quickly mobilised themselves and set on a rescue mission.

At about 7.30 am of May 14, KYKL cadres halted and frisked three suspicious looking individuals coming on a Kinetic Honda at Koutruk Khunou.

With the recovery of two pistols from them, the KYKL cadres questioned them.

During the course of questioning, it was learnt that two of them were agents of security forces.

They were identified as Soraijam Jiten (27) s/o late S Bidhu of Sagoltongba Awang Leikai and Konjengbam Manao (22) s/o K Rajendro of Lamdeng Mayai Leikai.

The third turned out to be Dr Iboton's abducted son, Roshan.

While Rosan was handed over to family members, Jiten and Manao were subjected to intensive interrogation.

In the process, it was established that they were agents of security forces and were involved in extortion and criminal acts masquerading themselves as insurgents.

They were also used by security forces in harassing people in the name of searching for insurgents.

The standing order to eliminate agents of security forces if there were ample evidence, coupled with the intelligence report that a combined team of security forces have moved in the area, Jiten and Manao were eliminated at Khurkhul Uyung Makhong at about 2 am of May 15 .

The KYKL cadres were returning after executing works when they came under fire from security force who were already laying in ambush on all sides.

The KYKL cadres, not being properly trained army, was another major factor for the big defeat, the outfit observed.

In addition to the six cadres, the outfit also lost four AK rifles, two 9 mm pistols and two .38 pistols recovered from Jiten and Manao.

Claiming that the KYKL have clearly learnt of the crimes and roles allegedly being played by security forces in the name of tackling insurgency, the outfit lamented that it was unable to highlight the details to the public as the evidence collected in the process of questioning Jiten and Manao have fallen into the hands of security forces.

Sending a huge force in the area soon after the two anti-social elements were apprehended by KYKL cadres whereas no security force agent bothered to visit the area before even as Rosan was held in captivity there have vividly exposed the roles being played by security forces overtly in the criminal and violent activities which were attributed to the insurgency movement so far, the outfit alleged.

The outfit also shared the pain and grief being endured by the bereaved families and near and dear ones.
