However, timely intervention by police averted any major damage.

Escort commander Zamkholet of MSCP candidate Mangi said that escort personnel were constrained to fire in the air to quell the brawl.

Minutes after the altercation, a house belonging to one Khoirom Romason, located just opposite to the Liberal College was torched by a group of men.

However, timely intervention by police averted any major damage.

Fire tenders also arrived later.

Speaking to reporters, Mangi and his workers said that the quarrel followed after some Congress workers shouted abusive words just at his gate besides kicking at a car parked at his gate.

As a result of severe assault by Congress workers, four MSCP workers are currently undergoing treatment at Catholic Medical Centre, Koirengei, they informed.

On the other hand, Congress candidate N Biren maintained that the row followed after some Congress workers went to seek clarification on the alleged attempt by MSCP worker Romason to hit his elder brother with a car who was then dismantling a polling camp.

Moreover, the elder brother of Biren is being treated at RIMS after a bullet fired by Romason grazed the left ear, Biren said adding that they came to know about the row only after hearing the gun shot.
