Bandh, public greet CM at Ukhrul

Imphal, April 13 2010: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's visit to Ukhrul today evoked mixed response today with All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) supporters burning tyres at all main parts of the town and a public function held to lay the foundation stone of a sports complex at Pakshi ground, Hundung.

Amidst the 24-hour bandh called by various tribal bodies against the 2008 mendment Act of ADC election in all the tribal areas of the State, the Chief Minister and his entourage arrived as scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the sports complex at Dungrei, Hunpung with huge public turn up.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the construction of a mini sports complex at Hundung and a hockey stadium at TNL ground have been the long cherished dreams of the sporting fraternity.

However, the two projects have been delayed due to some constraints.

He also assured that community hall would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 40 to 50 lakhs and a handicraft institution at an estimated cost of Rs 17 to 18 lakhs at the district headquarters.

About the involvement of one of his Minister in the incident of shooting Advocate General while returning together from attending a function at Hundung in February, the Chief Minister said that the matter has been sorted out cordially.

The Chief Minister, however, regretted his inability to attend the said function.

In connection with the imbroglio over the ADC election, the Chief Minister maintained that SPF Government has been doing everything possible for the betterment of the denizens living in the hills.

Though holding of the ADC election has been delayed for the last two decades, the present Govt has made necessary preparation for holding the election next month, with amendments and rectification if necessary.

As a token of his appreciation, the Chief Minister presented Rs 50,000 to the dance troupe and the organizer of the function.

Meanwhile, due to the 24 hours bandh called by the ANSAM all the inter district bus and taxi services remained affected in the district today.

Shops, market places and educational institutions schools and institution remained closed for the day.

Except for the vehicles of the security personnel, no traffic movement was seen on the roads.
