Imphal, May 11 2010: Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) on Tuesday appealed concerned organizations to exempt health related services particularly supply of life saving medicines from the purview of the blockade and bandh.

Dr.RK.Ratankumar, general secretary of MCDA told the media persons that life saving drugs in the state will get over within 5-10 days time for which the Manipur government needs to act fast for alternate arrangement to ship in the medicines with appropriate security measures.

Explaining why the flights and air cargoes did not intend to ship-in the life saving drugs into the state, he said due to the huge volumes (size of packages) and less weight seems to be the factor for not carrying it as the air carriers mostly weight things-size matter.

Ratankumar suggests that the air shipment including air cargoes should give priority to life saving drugs considering the light weight of the medicines.

Some of the life saving medicines which are likely to run-out included anti-hypertensive, anti-olytics, anti-TB, asthmatic anti-biotics, anti-diabetic among others.

The life saving drugs which needed urgent shipment includes Dextrose groups, diabetic range, insulin, heavy bottle items.
