Combined team gun down UG suspects

Imphal, May 09 2009: A combined security team reportedly gunned down three suspected underground activists in a late evening encounter which took place near Khongji Mahadev turning of Irilbung-Kalika road under Irilbung Police Station of Imphal East district today.

According to police report, the encounter broke out with suspected RPF cadres when a combined force of Imphal East Police Commandos and personnel of 28 Assam Rifles rushed to the area on receipt of specific information at around 7.30 pm.

The combined force have recovered two 9 mm pistols, one revolver, two Chinese made hand grenades besides other incriminating documents from the possession of the three slain UG suspects.

On top of writing the name of one Sorokhaibam Budha of Serou Awang Leikai in the pocket diary recovered from the possession of the slain UG suspect who was found along with one revolver, four ammunition and one Chinese made hand grenade, details of financial accounts like 'Rs 2 lakhs accrued from Alu and Ngari, Rs 5 lakhs that had been given to Sir Rishikanta, etc' have also been jotted down.

In another pocket diary recovered from the UG suspect who was found with one Baretta pistol, three ammunition and one Chinese hand grenade, the name one Th Dhananjoy of Khongjom was written with details of financial account like 'Rs 20,000 received from betel leaves in March, balance amount of Rs 2000 and Rs 20,000 for April'.

The slain UG suspect also has tattoo of 'Banita' on his left hand wrist with another faded tattoo on the upper portion of his right hand.

While as per the writing in the pocket diary recovered from the slain UG suspect who was found with one Baretta pistol with two ammunition, he could be one Th Homen of Serou Awang Leikai, the police report said, adding that details with regard to Rs 1.50 lakhs that had been given to Sir Rishikanta at Guwahati had also been found scribbled in the said diary.

In another late night shoot-out that occured about 2.5 kms north-east of Kakching police station in Thoubal district, troops of 21 Assam Rifles killed two UG suspects.

The encounter that reportedly took place at around 8.30 pm near Irengband Hawairou Loukon resulting in the slaying of two persons from whom one lathode gun with three shells, an AK 56 rifle along with a magazine and 15 rounds have been recovered.

A team of Kakching police station has reportedly recovered the body from the encounter site.
