Imphal, April 09: Two PREPAK cadres said to be involved in the attack at the residence of MLA Bijoy Koijam of Thongju AC on march 3, 2008 have been apprehended by a combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles from lamlong area on April 7 with the duo also naming cadre of the armed outfit responsible for the attack at the Assembly secretariat on March 8 .

According to a statement issued by the SP (Imphal East) Th Radheshyam Singh today, the two arrested cadres are Md Yahiya (20) s/o Md Sanayai of Khabeisoi and Md Atomba (18) s/o Md bashir Rahaman of Khabeisoi.

Besides apprehending the two at around 9 pm, a Pulsar-150 motorcycle have also been seized from the possession of Yahiya and Atomba who confessed of carrying out the grenade attack at MLA Bijoy Koijam's residence, said the statement while adding that both joined the banned outfit in 2007 through one SS Lt sunil alias Tera Kaba of Bashikhong.

Apart from the arrested duo's revelation of attacking the MLA's residence under the direction of Sunil, the attack at the Assembly complex is informed to have been carried out by Sunil and other party cadres.

In another development, Imphal East police recovered the hijacked goods carrier (MN05/3841) from Huidrom village last evening and rescued the truck driver namely Ningthoujam Sarat Singh (27) s/o N Deven Singh of Khangabok, along with the assistant driver Laishram Krishna Kumar Singh (26) s/o L Ningthoujao Singh of Tripura.

Two PREPAK cadres identified as Nongthombam Sanaton Meitei (32) s/o N Ibopishak Meitei of Nongmeibung Ayangpalli and Laishram Jiten alias Jitesh Singh (34) s/o Jhulon Macha Singh of Wangkhei Thambalkhong reportedly involved in hijacking the truck had been pulled up from Golapati and Thambalkhong areas in the early hours today.

Meanwhile, around 600 persons were rounded up for verification during a cordon and search operation jointly launched by a combined team of Imphal East commandos, 32 Assam Rifles and 115 Bn CRPF.
