Imphal, May 08 2010: Strongly condemning the Mao incident of May 6, where two innocent students were killed and injuring many civilians by Manipur security forces personnel by firing tear gas shells, mock bombs and live bullets at a peaceful rally organized by Naga Women Union Manipur (NWUM) and United Naga Council (UNC) against the State Government decision to bar Th Muivah from visiting Manipur, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) urged the Manipur State Government to bring a peaceful solution rather than use military power.

The ZYF denounced the decision of the State Government to send in more re-inforcement at Mao Gate inorder to control law and order.

However, the intention of the government is to suppressed the struggle for rights and justice of the Nagas through bullets and guns.

It further warned that any serious and unwanted eventuality that occur in future will be the solely responsibility of the Manipur Government.

The ZYF also welcome and appreciated the bold decision taken by the six Naga MLAs to resign on moral ground due to the administrative failure of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.

This is the right step taken by the Naga MLAs in the right time.

The ZYF said that at the present volatile situation in the state, the Government should provide security to Naga inhabitants residing in different areas of Manipur valley for their safety as the Naga populace feel insecure.

The ZYF appeal the general public to keep alert and not to spread rumours whatsoever.

The ZYF demanded the Manipur Government to immdediately extend all possible help to the next of kin of the deceased and also to those injuries to meet their medical expenses.

At this hour of sorrow and agony, the ZYF on behalf of the Zeliangrong community extend our solidarity and convey our heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families of the deceased and pray to Almighty God for quick recovery of all those injured persons.

Dennouncing the Mao incident, various civil Zeliangrong Organisations based at Tamenglong Hqrs took out a mass protest rally from Apollo Lower Ground to DC office and submitted a memorandum, the ZYF added.
