GOC 3 Corps on security recce

Imphal, January 04: On his visit to the State, GOC 3 Corps Lt Gen MS Dadwal arrived at Imphal today.

At Mantripukhri he was briefed by IG AR (S) Maj Gen BK Chengapa about the prevailing security situation in Manipur and the ongoing Samtal Operations.

The GOC accompanied by Maj Gen BK Chengapa called on Governor Dr SS Sidhu and Chief Minister O Ibobi and apprised them of the latest security situation in the State, informed an AR PRO release.

The Corps commander informed that in the ongoing Operation Samtal, the Assam Rifles and Army have so far secured the area till S Bongjoi and area upto New Samtal will be cleared in a few days.

In the operations 13 UNLF cadres have been killed and many more injured.

Out of the reported large number of IEDs laid by UG groups, 184 IEDs have been recovered/destroyed so far, conveyed the PRO.

The security forces after clearing the road off IEDs have been sharing their food and relief material with the local people in the area, it informed.

Lt Gen MS Dadwal also appealed to the Chief Minister to establish administrative set-up, law and order and development programmes in Somtal area.

The Chief Minister on his part assured all steps for infrastructure development including road construction and provision of food, medicines and other supplies to the local people at the earliest.

The Chief Minister also directed for immediate dispatch of a truck load of rice and also kerosene oil and other relief materials to Somtal region, conveyed the release.

Lt Gen MS Dadwal left for Dimapur later in the afternoon, added the release.
