Rally, meet denounce child kidnaping

Imphal, August 02: Denouncing the act of kidnapping children, a mass rally was taken out at Lilong today followed by a public meeting.

The rally organised by the All Lilong United Clubs' Organisation (ALUCO) and schools/colleges located within Lilong Assembly constituency started from Lilong Bazar and wound up at Haoreibi College where a public meeting was also held.

The protest rally and meeting was attended by hundreds of people including students.

The main resolutions adopted in the public meeting include urging all concerned to stop kidnapping children with the motive to recruit them as child soldiers and to condemn the act in the strongest term.

The meeting also resolved to creat conducive environment for the children to study without any sense of fear and anxiety.

Another resolution concerns setting up a united body comprising of all the civil organisations of Lilong area.

Meanwhile, a protest sitting was staged against kidnapping children at Lamlong Keithel today by Khurai Nupi Keithel Apunba Lup.

A similar protest demonstration was also staged by students, guardians, staff of Heibongpokpi Junior High School, members of Heibongpokpi Nupi Samaj, Sanjenbam Apunba Nupi Lup, Lairenkabi Apunba Nupi Lup, Lamlongei Apunba Nupi Lup and Lamsang Awang Meira Paibi Lup and Lambal Nupi Lup at Heibongpokpi today.

The protesters strongly condemned the act of kidnapping children to recruit them as child soldiers.

Demanding an immediate halt to the act of kidnapping young students, a joint protest sitting was staged by students of Stephen English School, Hiyangthang, Heipok High School, Kumari High School, Hiyangthang, volunteers of local clubs and Meira Paibi Lups at Hiyangthang.

The protesters also decried the practice of killing persons brought from other places at Hiyangthang.
