Jaitly invites stable post poll alliance

Imphal, February 02: The Samata Party parliamentary board chairman, Jaya Jaitly, has predicted that the forthcoming elections to the State Assembly will result in a hung House, and no party will be able to gain a majority.

Addressing mediapersons today at the Manipur Press Club while releasing the election manifesto of the Samata Party, Jaya Jaitly said the political parties which did not encourage defections needed to come together in a post poll alliance and provide a stable government.

Jaitly predicted that the Samata Party will be able to garner at least 15 seats in the forthcoming elections, and said the doors were open for a post poll alliance.

She said such an alliance would be based on certain ground rules, and a common minimum programme would have to be framed.

Regarding the promulgation of the POTO, she said the stand adopted by the NDA government in this regard was aimed at standing unitedly against terrorism.

Reading out party manifesto, former chief minister Radhabinod Koijam listed as the party�s priorities protection of territorial integrity of Manipur, providing stable government and initiation of talks with underground groups to bring back peace to the state.

The manifesto also promises a well defined fiscal policy to tackle the financial crunch and an anti-corruption drive.
