Imphal, June 02 2009: The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has written to the state Additional Chief Secretary (Home) requesting for providing personal security guards to Pebam Gunindro who is being allegedly threatened by the AR for revealing the details of the arrest and killing of Satish.

The AHRC has been writing to the Additional Chief Secretary after receiving the information from the Human Rights Alert (HRA).

It is also asking the Manipur government authority to provide security in view of the threats and intimidations received from certain members of security forces, according to a dispatch by the HRA programme executive, Basantakumar Wareppa.

Gunindro was arrested along with Loitongbam Satish who the security forces later killed in a claimed encounter on May 16 last.

According to Gunindro, they were detained for three days by the security forces during which they were threatened and tortured.

Gunindro was released from the custody of the Assam Rifles and was handed over to the police while Satish was killed in an alleged encounter.

Gunindro has also been reportedly threatened by the officers with death in case he reveals the details of the incident or approaches the Court.

Gunindro has done both.
