Imphal, February 05 2010: A total shutdown was observed at Khurai Lamlong Bazar in Imphal East today in protest against murder of RK Ratanmala and demanded befitting punishment to the culprit(s) involved in the murder.

Women vendors and shopkeepers also staged a sit-in protest at the market shed of the Bazar by downing the shutters of all the shops and other business establishments.

The sit-in protest was staged to pressurise the state government to award appropriate punishment to the culprit(s) involved in the murder of 26 year old RK Ratanamala of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai who was allegedly killed by Soibam Dhanabir, a fish farmer on the night of January 29.The dead body of Ratanmala was recovered from a paddy field at Poila Loukhon of Ningombam under Singjamei Police Station on the next day.

In order to check recurrence of such heinous crime of killing woman, authority should award befitting punishment to the culprit(S), the president of Khurai Lamlong Keithel Phambi Nupi Marup, Athokpam Apabi taking part in the protest stated.

On the other hand, a protest rally cum procession to mark the mangani leihul tamba of deceased Ratanmala was carried out today from her residence at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai to Poila Loukon, Ningombam where her dead body was abandoned after murder.

The rally also passed through the road near the house of Soibam Dhanabir who admitted committing the crime to the police.

The rally shouted various slogans like 'Award befitting punishment to the killer, award death sentence to the woman killer'.
