An MLA�escort hurt in firing by his colleague

Imphal, December 23 2008: AN IRB rifleman detailing a house guard cum escort of MLA, Kanthuanang Panmei sustained injury when one of his colleagues accidentally fired out five rounds of shots from his service rifle this morning at around 9.40 am.

The IRB who fired the gun has been placed under suspension, official said.

The injured IRB has been identified as Alvind Panmei while his colleague who fired the gun accidentally was named as Md Abdul Jafar.

Both belongs to B-company of the 2nd IRB and detailed as house guard cum escort of the MLA Kanthuanang Panmei, vice-chairman of the Hills Areas Committee of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Reports said that Alvind sustained bullet injury when Abdul fired out five rounds of shots from his service rifles.

Abdul fired out the shots accidentally while he was servicing his service weapon, AK-47 rifle inside the barrack at the MLAs quarter.

One bullet hit to Alvind, who was sitting his bad inside the barrack when the firing occurred, hit by a bullet at his left knee.

He was immediately hospitalized at RIMS hospital, reports said.

Following the incident, the CO of the 2nd IRB, K Radhashayam issued an order placing Abdul under suspension from his service, source later today said.
