Police prevent reporters covering professor killing protest

Imphal, June 04 2009: A media going for coverage to the sit-in protest staged by students at their respective schools decrying the killing of Professor Dr.Md Islamuddin were blocked by the security personnel.

They also detained the vehicle travelling by the media persons for sometime today.

The incident occurred this afternoon at around 2 pm when the media team was traveling with a tata magic bearing registration no.MN04-3064 come out after covering a sit-in protest at Ishwar Higher Secondary School, Canchipur.

When the media team came out from the school, a police team led by OC of the Singjamei police, Mangi who arrived there forced to enter the students of the school inside the school campus ending the sit-in protest.

On seeing the scene, the media team backed to the spot to enquire what had happened, the police personnel raised many question like "Who insist to cover, where are they going to cover, who bring you here," etc.

to the reporters and blocked them from covering the events further.

Then police seized the vehicle which the media persons traveling along with the driver and reporters were dropped to their respective offices.

Despite the police threatened, reporters continued to perform their duty covering the event.

They covered the sit-in protest staged at various schools at Millennium Institute of Sceince at Sagolband Salam Leikai, The Bless Academy and Kebol High School at Tera Bazar, Standard Robarth School, Canchipur, Sikha Higher Secondary School and Dineshwori Higher Secondary School, Daina English School at Ragaliong, Secret Heart School, Porompat, JN Nursing Institute, Royal School of Nursing, Chaoba Nursing School, Rabi School of Nursing, S Kumar Hospital and Research Institute and School of Nursing, Khabeisoi.

Various slogans decrying the murder of MU professor, Islamuddin were displayed at the protest sides.
