Imphal, March 29: Strongly condemning the killing of Ps Snowy Anal of Anal Khunou and Lh Esther of Charongching village by unidentified gunmen on March 21, the Chandel Peoples' Action Committee (CPAC), formed in connection with the twin killings, has today decided to stage a protest rally on March 31 at the district headquarters.

In a statement, the CPAC said that the decision to go ahead with the protest rally was taken during a meeting held at the office of the Chandel Naga Peoples' Association, as the Government has failed to reciprocate to their demands positively.

The rally will centre around the demands of identifying the culprits and announcing their identities within 48 hours, to punish the culprits as per the law of the land and to compensate the families of the two slain women.

Despite their grievances, the CPAC said that it will discourage any activities that will aggravate communal tension.

The CPAC has also appealed to all civil society organisations, the Church, NGOs, village chiefs, etc to participate in the rally which will kick off from Maha Union High School Ground at 10 am.

The participants have also been informed to assemble at the said venue by 8 am.

The tribe presidents, student organisations of the federating units have been urged to make necessary arrangements so that the rallyists may be dropped at their designated places.

The CPAC has also appealed to all the organisations concerned, the civil societies, Church leaders and public to extend their help and assistance to the bereaved families.
