AR guns down 2 KYKL suspects

Imphal, November 27: Troops of Ist Assam Rifles posted at Kamjong reportedly killed to suspected underground activists of the proscribed KYKL during an encounter which took place in the wee hours yesterday at Grihang village, 3 kms south-west of Chassad Police Station in Ukhrul district.

One carbine of 9 mm pistol, five live rounds of ammunition and one Chinese made hand grenade have also been reportedly recovered from the possession of the slain activists whose identities are yet to be established.

In connection with the incident, PRO Assam Rifles informed that based on specific intelligence about the movement of armed UGs in the area of Grihang near Chassad in Ukhrul district, troops of Ist Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched a massive search and combing operation in general area surrounding Grihang.

During the operation, the troops observed movement of UGs at Grihang.

On being challenged, the UGs opened indiscriminate fire prompting the troops to retaliate.

In the ensuing gun battle, two UGs suspected to be KYKL cadres were killed.

Meanwhile, the troops handed over the bodies to Chassad Police Station, which in turned deposited the same to the mortuary of RIMS Hospital here.
