Imphal, December 26: The Imphal East district police have raised certain posers to the December 24 clarification issued by the proscribed PREPAK in connection with the demises of two UG activists.

According to a statement issued by Superintendent of Police L Kailun today, the Imphal East district police had not issued any press release to the effect that the deceased persons were PLA or PREPAK cadres.

"The denial by the outfit (PREPAK) is indicative that the deceased were their cadres/members.

It is not clear which faction of the outfit is issuing the press statement".

The SP was referring to reports carried by local dailies on December 25 wherein secretary in-charge of department of publicity (PREPAK) Aheiba Angom had stated that the deceased N Romajit (32) of Kongpal Chanam Leikai and S Thouba Meitei (26) of Langathel Thingam Leikai were in no way related to the outfit.

Moreover, the SP's rejoinder also reflected on Aheiba Angom accusing security forces of retracting from projecting the deceased individuals as PLA cadres and then PREPAK men.

Further, the SP highlighted that on December 24, N Romajit was identified by his family members and the body claimed for the last rites after post mortem examination.

Regarding Thouba, the SP maintained that his identity could be affirmed only after the news item was issued by PREPAK.

After the news item, the family members claimed the body for the last rites after the post mortem yesterday, he added.

The allegation of PREPAK (unknown faction) is not only false but a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and malign image of the district police.
