Imphal, December 26: Claiming that no other party except the Congress would be able to undertake development works either at the State or the Centre, Chief Minister O Ibobi ridiculed the tall promises of MPP saying that the regional party's influence does not extend beyond Awang Sekmai.

Speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall at Ibudhou Thongju Lakpa premises under Thongju Assembly Constituency yesterday, Ibobi also recounted various development projects taken up by the SPF Government.

The inaugural function of the community hall, constructed at the cost of Rs 10 lakhs (approximately) from the MP Local Area Development Fund and MLA Local Area Development Fund, was attended by MP Dr T Meinya as president and MLA Bijoy Koijam as guest of honour.

Chief Minister O Ibobi rejoiced over the fact that SPF is able to establish a stable Government in Manipur for the full term.

Observing that development of any State will be possible only when there is a stable Government, Ibobi said that many delayed mega projects such as the Khuga Multipurpose Project, Dolaithabi and Thoubal Multipurpose Projects are all on the verge of completion due to the relentless efforts of the SPF Governmen.

The benefits of these projects would be made available to the people within a short time, assured the Chief Minister.

Attacking the preceding Governments, the Chief Minister remarked that construction of shops over drains, large scale appointments without taking into account the financial considerations and leaving mega projects incomplete after taking them up in a haphazard manner were the achievements of the previous Governments regardless of whether they were headed by regional parties or National parties with the exception of Congress party.

Concerning the plight of the people of Thongju Constituency with regard to electricity and safe drinking water, Ibobi informed that electric wires worth Rs 10 crores have been ordered.

Once the wires are supplied, all the power requirements of the Constituency would be met, the CM assured.

Regarding water supply, the Chief Minister assured that there would no problem for safe drinking water once the augmentaion of Canchipur Water Supply Plant and the Irilbung Water Supply Plant are completed.

Saying that the developmental changes seen in the Thongju constituency during the last four years are all contributions of MLA Bijoy Koijam, the Chief Minister noted that the constituency still needs a capable MLA like Bijoy Koijam to advance further.

He further stressed on the inevitability to dredge and evict encroachers along Leishang Hiden from the Manipur University main gate to Lilong.

Being a historical place, people should help in maintaining the natural structure of Canchipur and its surrounding areas, said Ibobi.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Dr T Meinya informed that 7/8 community halls are being constructed in Thongju constituency from his MPLAD and many of which have been completed.

Saying that there is still certain difficulties to make up for the failure of previous MLAs to take up development works in the constituency, MLA Bijoy Koijam said that a great change towards development has been brought about in the constituency under the guidance of Chief Minister O Ibobi and MP Dr T Meinya.

He also promised a sea change not only in Thongju constituency but also all over Manipur in case SPF Ministry is elected to power for another term.
