Imphal, December 23: Imphal East District Police Commandos reportedly killed two suspected underground activists during an encounter at Kongpal Laingam Loukol, 4 kms east of Porompat Police Station at around 5.10 pm today.

The Commandos have also claimed to have recovered one 9 mm pistol loaded with five live rounds of ammunition and one point 32 pistol loaded with one live bullet from the possession of the slain activists whose identities are yet to be established.

According to police report, the incident occurred while the Commandos were rushing in to Kongpal area on receiving intelligence information on the movement of some underground activists.

As the Commando team was approaching Kongpal Laingam Loukol, some youths were seen running away in suspicious manner.

The Commandos asked them to stop, but instead of stopping the youths opened fire at the pursuing Commandos who also retaliated the firing.

In the ensuing firing exchange, the Commandos managed killed two of them while the rest managed to escape.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been picked up and kept at the mortuary of RIMS for identification.
