Imphal, October 22 2009: One accused in the rape and murder case of Sapam Memton (35) of Pukhao Khabam under Lamlai police station has been hacked to death by an infuriated mob today.

The slain accused has been identified as Moirangthem Tiken alias Ibung (34) s/o late Ningthemjao of Pukhao Khabam Mamang Leikai.

Earlier in the day, a public meeting was held at Pukhao Khabam ground on the brutal rape and murder of Sapam Memton.

Interestingly, accused Moirangthem Tiken alias Ibung attended the meeting from the start till the end.

During the meeting, Memton's family members brought out the mobile phone she used.

Then the local people studied the mobile numbers she received ahead of her murder.

On studying the mobile numbers received, people started suspecting Tiken alias Ibung.

Just as the people's suspicion over Tiken's involvement in the crime was rising, Tiken alias Ibung ran away from the meeting venue.

But he was chased and nabbed by the people.

Then Tiken was subjected to intense questioning.

In the course of the questioning, an irate mob attacked Tiken and he was killed on the spot.

Later Lamlai police took the corpse of Tiken to RIMS mortuary.

The OC of Lamlai PS said that a case would be registered in connection with the incident.

Even after the corpse of Tiken was taken away by police, the mob, infuriated by the brutal rape and murder of Memton, vandalised a pan shop opened at the residential gate of Tiken.
