Migrant worker shot, hurt, KCP claims hand

Imphal, July 19: Sporadic incidents of armed miscreants targeting migrant workers continued with another non-Manipuri labourer shot and injured today.

Claiming responsibility for the shooting of the migrant worker, a statement issued by information and public relations department of the proscribed KCP Ibungo Ngangom alleged that the targeted individual is a sub-agent of the Army's military intelligence.

Contending that KCP's intelligence wing had already identified a number of non-Manipuris donning the mask of labourers and other professions but working as agents and sub-agents of the Army, Ibungo Ngangom cautioned elimination of such individuals should not evoke protest from the local population by expressing that continued atrocities committed against manipuris in other parts of the country are being deliberately ignored.

The shooting incident occurred at Singjamei Wangma kshetri Leikai at around 5.15 am with the injured person said to be Lalaji Rai (30) s/o Bramhachari of Bihar, but staying at a rented quarter of one Irengbam Iboton of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai.

lalaji, who is undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital suffered bullet wounds on the thigh and forearm areas.

Meanwhile, body of a 40 year old woman was fished out from Thoubal River, about a kilometre from Sikibung village under Litan police station yesterday.

The victim woman identified as Ram Kumari w/o Birju Rai was working under the 84 Bn (RC) BRTF and staying at the BRTF Labour Camp (NH-150) located near Sikiphung.

According to information Ram Kumari was last seen walking towards the river bed after returning from her worksite on July 17 evening after which corpse was recovered at 5 pm yesterday.

The body has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS morgue today.
