Joint force scalp one UG suspect

Imphal, August 15: A combined team of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles under the 57 Mountain Division eliminated a suspected UG cadre last night at about 9 during a shoot out at a spot somewhere between Chiningkhol and Lower Ngarian in Senapati district.

According to the PIB (Defence Wing), on receiving information about the presence of some militants in the said area, troops of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles and Bishnupur police commandos were pressed into service.

On reaching the place, the security forces saw some persons moving suspiciously and trying to cross a nullah, said PIB in a statement and added that when challenged and asked to surrender the militants opened fire.

In the ensuing gun fight one of the militants was killed said PIB and added that one 9 mm pistol was recovered from the slain man.

Police sources said that after the encounter, they recovered one country made 9 mm pistol as well as four live bullets.

According to police, when the joint team reached the spot they saw some persons moving in a suspicious manner and when asked to stop, the suspected militants returned fire.

This prompted the security personnel to retaliate and while one was killed the others managed to escape under cover of darkness.

Though the spot where the encounter ensued is within Senapati district, it comes under the jurisdiction of Bishnupur police.

The body has been retrieved and deposited at RIMS morgue for identification and necessary medical procedures.

Meanwhile just minutes before the shoot out at Senapati district, unidentified gunmen opened fire in the air at Mayang Imphal Keithel yesterday at about 8.45 pm.

There is no report of any injuries in the incident.

Found dead: A man suspected to be migrant worker was found dead in front of the Forest Range Road along IT Road under Kangpokpi Police Station in Senapati district early morning today.

According to information, there were wounds on the body of the migrant worker who appears to be around 35 years of age and mentally deranged.

The body was recovered at around 5 am today.

On the other hand, two villagers were reportedly electrocuted at Molkon Nepali village under Saikul Police Station in Senapati on August 14.The unfortunate incident occurred when the electric pole snapped and the victims came in contact with live wire.

The victims have been identified as Prasad Kotwal (57) s/o late Krishna Bahadur and Bikash Kotwal (26) s/o Ram Bahadur Bhandhari of Molkon Nepali village.
