Imphal, August 14: MPP has expressed doubt over the move being made to investigate the case of exclusion of weightlifter Laishram Monika from Beijing Olympics by a one man commission led by former Chief Election Commissioner Krishnamoorti.

Talking to mediapersons today, party president Dr L Chandramani said MPP does not believe that the investigation would lead to anywhere and justice be done.

He said Monika is a victim of the discriminatory Indian sports policy .

The incident of Monika has illustrated once more the attitude of mainstream India toward the people of Manipur.

Dr Chandramani demanded that the existing Indian sports policy should be amended so that the officials responsible for excluding Monika from the Olympic Games can be pulled up and given befitting punishment.

Former Union Minister Th Chaoba noted that players coming from smaller States have always been discriminated in favour of players coming from bigger States at the time of selection of players for the National and International level competitions as the Selection Committee comprise officials from bigger States.

So until and unless, existing sports policy of India and the funding system has been amended, such discrimination would continue to haunt the players coming from smaller States.

Investigating into the case of Monika by a one man commission would not be able to do justice.

So the matter should be handed over to the CBI, Chaoba demanded.
