Imphal, June 14 2009: A health worker of an NGO has been beaten to death by unidentified persons near Uchiwa Leirak Achouba of Mayai Lambi.

Health worker Md Musamudin (34) s/o Naseer Ali of Hangoon in Thoubal district was found dead this morning, said a police source.

Musamudin was working as counsellor to drug abusers at Health for All, an NGO based at Sekmaijin.

He went out on a bicycle yesterday afternoon and was last seen at Sekmaijin Keithel at about 5 pm.

Musamuddin was found dead at a spot on the western side of Mayai Lambi, about 200 metres from Uchiwa Leirak Achouba (also known as Mayai Sallam) from Sekmaijin this morning.

Wounds inflicted by caning were observed on his back.

In addition to scarred eyebrow, one of his hand was found broken.

Coalesced blood was also observed on his nose and ears.

His bicycle and two jute bags were recovered from the spot.

But Musamudin's spectacles and slippers were missing.

It is reported that the corpse was dumped there after the killing was committed at some other place.

The identity and motive of the killers could not be ascertained yet.

After registering a case, Mayang Imphal police have launched an investigation into the murder.

Family members have claimed the corpse after completion of post mortem at RIMS morgue today.
