Bandh begins on extra-judicial killings

Imphal, July 13: The indefinite bandh imposed by the JAC formed in connection with the alleged extra-judicial killings of Thangtinsei Haokip (31) and Limlenbert alias Bartneo Hangshing (21) has begun with effect from 6 pm today.

JAC functionaries during an interaction with media persons had yesterday said that they would wait till 2 pm of today (July 13) for the State authorities to declare its position on the twin killing.

Both Thangtinsei and Bartneo were from K Hengbung village under Saikul sub-division of Senapati district but were staying at New lambulane before they were shot dead by a combined team of Imphal East police commandos and 115 Bn BSF on July 11 afternoon at Sanjenbam Chinglak (hills).

The JAC in a representation submitted to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had demanded that the State authorities order a judicial inquiry on the killings and place security personnel involved in the case under suspension till the final outcome of the investigation.

Denouncing the killing people in substantial number and representatives of civil society organisations today staged a protest demonstration at New Lambulane with the FCS Minister Y Erabot too joining the protest session.

Activities related to education and other essential services would be exempted from the purview of the agitation call of the JAC.

Meanwhile, female activists of the Apunba Lup demonstrated at near the entrance gate of the Chief Minister's official residence at around 2 pm today in denunciation of the slaying of one L Bimolchandra of Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai by police commandos.

the protestors shouted slogans demanding punitive action against police commandos involved in the killing of Bimolchandra before security personnel herded them away from the high security zone.

Bimolchandra was shot dead by a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and 12 Maratha Light Infantry at near Ucheckon Changangei on July 4 .

Body found: Police have deposited a male body at RIMS morgue this afternoon.

The corpse was reportedly found by some individuals at near the gate of Manipur College, Pishumthong at around 3.30 pm.

The body bears non-Manipuri facial features.
