Four UG suspects slain

Imphal, June 13 2009: Four UG suspects have been slain in two separate encounters with Assam Rifles troops in Chandel district this morning.

According to police sources, the first incident of gun fight took place on the bank of Lokchao river under Moreh police station at about 3.30 am.

Acting on specific information about movement of UG cadres from Myanmar towards Imphal, troops of 31 AR under 26 Sector laid multiple ambushes in Lokchao area.

At about 3.35 am, the UG suspects moved into the area.

On being challenged by troops, the individuals fired and tried to flee.

At the moment, troops came out from the flank of the militants and killed both the UGs, conveyed a press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S).

One G-3 rifle, four live rounds, one US made lathode, two chinese hand grenades, one live bomb of lathode and one fired case of lathode were recovered from the slain militants.

The second incident of encounter broke out at Bongli under Tengnoupal police station at about 4.45 am.

Here too, troops of 29 AR under 26 Sector were laying in ambush following specific tip-off about movement of UG cadres to carry out militant activity.

The gun fight broke out when two persons moving on Bongli-Kuljang track entered the ambush zone.

Both were killed in the gun-fight.

One AK 47 with magazine and a live round, four fired cases of AK-47, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, four Chinese hand grenades and two IEDs were recovered the slain militants, it added.

Police have retrieved all the four corpses and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile, a press released issued by the OC of Moreh police station said that the two individuals killed in Lokchao shoot-out have non-local appearance.

One was 5'8" in height and had rounded face and medium complexion.

He had short hair and his ears were not pierced.

He wore white jean pants, olive green T-shirt and hunting boots.

The other was 5'6" in height.

He had oval face, slim figure and short hair.

His ears were not pierced.

He was wearing white jean pants, blue T-shirt and hunting boots.
