A host of Congress leaders led by Chief Minister O Ibobi and Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing turned up at Congress Bhawan to receive Dr T Meinya.

Speaking at the occasion, a visibly upbeat Dr Meinya proclaimed that his victory should be seen as a victory for the Congress, which has stumped poll pundits to lead the tally all over India.

Outlining his agenda, Dr Meinya said that as the elected representative of the people he would concentrate on ensuring that the territory of Manipur is not compromised with under any circumstances.

The MP elect further said that he would endeavour to initiate a political dialogue with the militant groups and to ensure protection of human rights.

Dr Meinya said that any threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur would be firmly dealt with and added that he would highlight the need to protect the territory of the State on the floor of Parliament.

To give an impetus to development programmes efforts would be made to initiate a political dialogue with all the militant groups operating in the State, further said the MP elect.

The Congress candidate also gave due credit to the party workers as well as the electorates for braving the restrictions imposed by some underground organisations and electing him as their representative.

Even at the all India level the Congress is set to make a grand come back, he observed and added that once the Congress assumes power all States would be treated equally.

Chief Minister O Ibobi who was also present said that the voters turn out is a clear indication that the people will not be cowed down by anyone from exercising their rights.

The recent election is a victory of the Parliamentary form of democracy, he observed.

Ibobi further said that a new secular Government will now come to power at New Delhi.

Congress will along with like minded parties to form the next Government.

With the Congress in power at New Delhi, the people can now look forward to something as no efforts would be spared to solve the acute financial crisis as well as the militancy problems afflicting the State.

The coming of the Congress to power will pave the path to development.

Rajya Sabha MP and veteran Congress leader Rishang Keishing said that the victory of Dr Meinya will give the much needed boost to the Congress party at New Delhi.

The last few years has been bad for Manipur for the State was not able to send a Congress MP to the Lok Sabha, he said and added that with the election of Dr Meinya that void will not be filled.

Earlier on the day, Dr Meinya drove to the residence of the Chief Minister where he met a host of Congress leaders.
