AR-UG gun fight: Woman hit by stray bullet

Imphal, June 10: A young married woman was reportedly hit by a stray bullet during last night's encounter between personnel of 7 Assam Rifles and suspected UGs at Thangalawai under Moirang Police Station.

The injured woman identified as Asem Ongbi Benu Devi (24) w/o Asem Ingoba has been brought and admitted to RIMS here after giving first aid at Moirang Hospital.

She was hit by a stray bullet on his right thigh.

Meanwhile, taking serious note of the incident, Kangsoibi Thangalawai Upliftment JAC, Bishnupur district has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today demanding payment of Rs 2 lakhs as compensation to the injured woman and withdrawal of Assam Rifles camp from Moirang Khunou.

On the other hand, AR personnel have reportedly handed over a green colour Mahindra Jeep (MN1A/4364) allegedly left behind by the UGs after the yesterday's encounter and a large quantity of arms and ammunition recovered from the site to the custody of Moirang Police Station today.

The recovered items include a magazine of AK-47 containing 37 live rounds of ammunition, 12 empty cartridges, three live bullets of M-16 Rifles and one spend cartridge, two empty cartridges of lethode lombs, a Nokia handset with SIM card.

One KYKL cadre identified as Moirangthem Bhupen (35) s/o Mohendro of Thinungei Makha Leikai who was arrested during the search operation in the area after yesterday's encounter has also been reportedly handed over to Moirang PS.
