Two slain in separate shoot-outs

Imphal, July 06: Security forces have gunned down two persons in separate incidents of gunfight in the past 24 hours.

In the first instance Imphal East police commandos shot dead a suspected UG cadre at around 8 pm today in Top Muslim area (Wakha road)and reportedly recovered one 9 mm pistol from the deceased individual's possession.

As per information provided by a police source, a commando team took position at the specified area based on inputs about presence of armed activists there.

On observing two persons moving suspiciously, the commandos asked them to stop but the duo resorting to firing at the security personnel.

One person died on the spot in retaliatory action while the other managed to flee taking advantage of darkness, the sources maintained adding that the body has been deposited at RIMS morgue.

Another suspected underground activist was slain after shootout with a combined team of Thoubal �" police commandos and 34 Assam Rifles troops at Tekcham village of Thoubal district at around 11.30 pm yesterday.

One Honda Activa (MN05B/1868), a revolver with four live rounds and incriminating documents have been recovered from the deceased after the shoot-out at Tekcham which lies under Kakching police station.

According to a statement issued by the SP, (Thoubal) Clay Khongsai, the combined team launched search operation in and around Tekcham village based on reliable information about presence of some UNLF cadres.

Upon observing 2/3 youths moving in a suspicious manner the security force/shouted to halt but came under fire from automatic weapons by the unidentified persons-suspected to be militants, the SP said.

Detailing that in the ensuing retaliatory firing which lasted for about 7-10 minutes one armed youth was killed on the spot and the others managed to escape taking advantage of darkness, the statement also confirmed recovery, of the said items Press sources said the deceased is likely to be one Ibungo (26) of Tentha.

The body is being kept at RIMS morgue for identification and necessary procedures.

In another statement, the SP conveyed of Thoubal district police commamdos recovering arms and ammunition after disclosure by a KCP harbourer identified as Mutum Surjit Singh (27) s/o M Lairenjao Singh of Tentha Marongband Leikai at around 5 am today.

While stating that the commandos launched search operation on being informed about the presence about presence of KCP (City), the SP listed one AK rifles magazine, 12 live rounds of AK-series and three live rounds of 9 mm as items recovered from Surjits house.

The SP further informed of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 AR arresting one hardcore PLA activist namely, Sorensangbam Manithoi Singh alias Imoba(36) s/o S.Tbobi Singh of Kiyam Siphai Amureijam Leikai from near Thoubal College Gate at around 3 pm.

One red colour Karizma motors cycle (MN04B/0322) has been seized from Manithoi, who is said to be a trained PLA cadre (Army No.2751) .

Body identified: Identity of the body, which had been laying at RIMS morgue since July 1, has been established as that of one Maibam Pitru (18) s/o Ganga of Jiribam's Golarthol Kha Khunou.

Pitru was among three persons gunned down by a combined team of security force at Nongmaiching Laphupokpi of Imphal East district five days back.

The body has been claimed by family members from RIMS morgue today.
