Imphal, May 06: Following a meeting of the CPI State Executive today on the issue of providing guns to the people of Heirok and Chajing, it has been decided to bring the matter before the Steering Committee of the SPF for necessary discussion.

Talking to The Sangai Express, CPI State Secretary L Iboyaima informed that the executive committee of the CPI has decided to convene a meeting of the Steering Committee to discuss the issue of providing guns to the people of Heirok and Chajing after creating posts of Special Police Officers (SPOs) shortly.

The matter of convening a meeting of the Steering Committee has been entrusted to CPI State Executive member Dr M Nara who is also a member of the SPF Steering Committee, said Iboyaima.

Remarking that the Government's initiative is a temporary one, he observed that establishment of SPOs and issuing guns to civilians cannot solve the issue of insurgency.

Observing that the demand for guns raised by the Heirok people is a very rare case, Iboyaima conveyed of the resolution adopted during CPI National convention held at Hyderabad to initiate unconditional political dialogue on the part of the Government of India to end the problem of insurgency in Manipur for good.

The same issue may be deliberated during the CPI National Executive meeting scheduled for May 10 and 11 at New Delhi, Iboyaima said.

Meanwhile, MPP president Dr L Chandramani informed that the party would discuss the issue arising out of Government's initiative to provide guns to the people of Heirok and Chajing on May 8 .
