Imphal, May 06: The UNLF ban on Indian Parliamentary elections in Manipur and subsequent boycott by the people is the biggest political blow to the Indian colonial rule since 1949 when the then independent Manipur was forcibly annexed to the Indian Union, claimed the underground organisation.

A press release of the outfit's central committee secretariat through the assistant secretary (publicity) described the mass boycott decision of the election as a triumph for the democratic struggle of the people of Manipur and will be a source of inspiration and courage to the entire region reeling under Indian colonial domination.

Referring to reports published in a state daily pertaining to concern of the Union Home Ministry due to the poll ban by the UNLF and subsequent boycott call by numerous social bodies, the achievement of the people of Manipur in ridiculing the recent Indian parliamentary elections has hurt India's pride of being the largest democracy in the world, observed the outfit.

On the Centre mulling to ban the bodies for their stance against the elections, the UNLF mockingly questioned, can the Government of India apply its audacious proposal that would tantamount to scuffling the voices of about 70 pc of the population.

On the other hand, the fury of the indian Govt is a tacit acknowledgement of the effect of the ban and political defeat for India, con- tended the outfit.

India's fury against the democratic voice of the Manipuri people had further exposed undemocratic activities perpetrated against the people under the immunity of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, said the UNLF statement while forecasting even more undemocratic repressive measure to suppress the national liberation struggle.

Calling upon the people not to be cowed down by the 'Indian threat' the outfit appealed for more concerted democratic struggle against repressive forces and unity of the people is indispensable in nullifying the numerical strength of the 'Indian Occupation Forces'.

Terming those at the helm of affairs in Manipur as Centre's puppet the UNLF said its tolerance has certain limits and would be compelled to treat 'Indian dispensation in Manipur' as enemies of the national liberation struggle.

Questioning the rationale of the 'puppet' in continuing to thrust New Delhi, the UNLF asserted that the centre's deployment of security force at Sajik Tampak without informing the State Government clearly illustrates the real intention of the Government of india in undermining the existence of State Govt citing the above reasons, the UNLF statement claimed that every indian elections held in Manipur are merely to give a semblance of democracy to the outside world but in reality are smoke screens to hide the undemocratic and repressive military rule imposed against the people thereby giving little choice to the underground organisation other than intensify the freedom movement.
