Two hurt in bomb attack at MM Gas

Imphal, September 04: Atleast two persons were hurt when unidentified persons lobbed a bomb at the counter of MM Gas Services on RIMS road today at about 4.20pm.The bomb was lobbed towards the counter which is situated in front of the LPG distributor service and north of RIMS road.

Two persons, an oil tanker driver and a rickshaw driver were injured in the bomb explosion, said police sources.

On immediate receipt of the information Imphal West police rushed to the spot and conducted a search operation.

However there is no report of any arrest.

The bomb is Chinese made, said police.

According to eye witness accounts, the bomb exploded as soon as two LPG carriers left the godown of MM Gas.

It is however not yet clear whether the two vehicles were loaded with LPG cylinders or not.

However the local people said that the bomb was lobbed and could not have been planted earlier.

The oil tanker driver injured in the blast is identified as Yumnam Ratan (33) originally from Wabagai Lhamkhai bazar but presently staying at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai while the rickshaw driver is identified as Heikrujam Nanao (27) of Laimanai but presently staying at Tera Loukrakpam Leikai.

The oil tanker driver sustained injuries on the right arm, right knee and back side.

The incident occurred while he was coming along the route on a Honda Activa.

Despite being injured he kept on driving till RIMS.

The rickshaw driver sustained injuries on the left hand and he was ferrying a passenger when he was hit by the splinter.

The passenger however escaped injuries.
