Imphal, March 02: Denouncing the targeting of houses belonging to supporters of CPI candidates allegedly by the Congress workers in Kumbi Assembly Constituency following the result of the election, protest demonstrations were staged at various places of the said AC.

The protest demonstrations were jointly organised by All Manipur Nupi Marup and various women bodies of Kumbi Assembly Constituency at Kumbi Bazar, Kumbi Setupur Mamang Leikai, Kumbi Terakhong, Ithai Khunou, near Ithai Barrage, Wangoo Chuthek Leikai, Wangoo Terakhong Akaloi Bazar, Wangoo Sabal Makha Leikai, Wangoo Sabal Awang Leikai, Wangoo Naojakhong, Borayangbi Lai Angoubi, Salan Konjil and Torbung Govindpur, etc.

Placards with wordings like �There should be no place for violence in the democratic election�, �Give people their rights to cast their votes and elect representatives of their choice�, etc were used by the protestors during the demonstration.

Meanwhile, in a statement, CPI Kumbi Local Council alleged that around 35 residential houses belonging to supporters of CPI candidate N Mangi were gutted in the fire set by workers of INC candidate S Bira.

Books of the students, their school uniforms and granaries have been destroyed in the fire apart from having looted jewelleries and destroying standing crops grown in the compound of these residential houses, the statement further alleged.

It may be noted incident of clashes also broke out between the political workers of the two candidates before the election.
