Bodies oppose Muivah's attempt

Imphal, May 13 2010: Describing as provocative attempt by NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to set foot in Manipur several organisations continue to express opposition to the proposed visit apart from drawing attention of the Government to ensure development of National Highway 53 so that food shortage crisis do not recur.

The organisations also conveyed condolences to the demise of two persons in the May 6 firing at Mao Gate as well as appealed to organisation/s concerned to lift the ongoing economic blockade along the national highways.

Moreover, they called upon the State Government to stand firm in preventing Muivah's entry to manipur for his arrival would aggravate the already tense situation and spark enmity between various ethnic groups that had been settling in manipur for ages.

Many of these organisations also appealed for calm and restrain to maintain peace in the State as well as to desist from spreading rumours some others organised protest demonstrations against Muivah's attempt to enter Manipur.

The organisations include People's Organisation for Civil Integrity and Liberties (Heirok), Patsoi Makha Yaipha Lup, Rising Knowledge Club (Khoyathong), Ethno Heritage Council and Workers' union Manipur.
