Demand for students' release continues

Imphal, June 12 2009: Protests against the detention of students under National Security Act (NSA) in connection with the killing of Prof Islamuddin at MU Campus and the demand for their release have continued in the state.

Several womenfolk organisations of the state including Porompat Thawanthaba Leirak Apunba Nupi Lup, Kongpal Kshetri Leikai Amom Thong Nupi Samaj, Ningthoukhong Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup, Moirang Khunou Khongnang Makhong Meira Paibee Lup, Keirenphabi Chanura Leishem Lup, Thanga Chinglak Apunba Nupi Lup, Nambol Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup have staged sit in protest at different places of the state demanding the release of the students detained under NSA.

"Release the students unconditionally," "NSA is not an Act to register against students," "Don't try to paint students as undergrounds," "DESAM's campaign for quality education is not against the government," "Detention of students will not be the solution," etc have been displayed on placards during the protests.

It may be mentioned that five students of Manipur University, including the Education secretary of DESAM have been detained under NSA in connection with the killing of Prof Islamuddin last month by a militant group.
