AR kills two UGs

Imphal, October 28, 2009: Troops of Assam Rifles have gunned down two underground cadres in claim exchange of fire with the undergrounds at Shonlun village under Sapermaina police station of Senapati district in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sources suspected the two slain activists of KCP (MC).

The dead bodies have been kept at RIMS morgue for official identification.

A statement of the PIB (Defense Wing) informed that the two were killed in an exchange of fire with troops of 26 Assam Rifles and recovered a 7.62 mm pistol, one .32 pistol, 30 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and six live rounds of pistol ammunitions.

It stated that the troop, on seeing some suspicious movement after last midnight, challenged them to identify themselves using search lights.

In retaliation, UGs opened fired indiscriminately on the troops and tried to run away.

The troops returned the fire.

In search operation after the firing ceased, the dead bodies of the undergrounds with the weapons recovered, the statement added.
