Woman hurt in police firing at vehicle

Imphal, February 27, 2010: A woman sustained bullet injury when police commandos fired upon a vehicle trying to avoid police checking at Thoubal Bazar along the Indo-Myanmar section of the NH-39 last night, at about 10.30 pm.

A police report Saturday said that the police commandos of Thoubal unit on frisking and checking duty along the highway fired the guns when the Tata Sumo vehicle refused to stop when signaled and sped up in a bid to escape police check.

A woman occupant of the vehicle was hit by two bullets, one at the thigh and the other at the chest but others occupants and driver escaped unhurt.

The 25-year old Anala of Bongyang village of Chandel district was immediately rushed to a hospital in Imphal.

She is out of danger but still serious, police said as saying by the doctors at the Shija Hospital, Imphal were the woman was admitted.

The police further reported that on checking to the vehicle, it was carrying tobacco products like Khaini, Zarda, Talab etc.

Meanwhile, a lathod bomb was discovered from the campus of Mega School, Yaralpat in Imphal east this afternoon at about 12.45 pm.

The same was later disposed off by the police in an open place nearby.
