Imphal, June 25 2009: Police have arrested one of person suspected to be involved in the murder of contractor Y Krishnadas of Kakching after abduction and taking out Rs 25 lakh from the family as ransom, an official source said today.

The suspect nabbed by a team of the Imphal police station was identified as Leikhruram Lukpa alias Nanao alias Hotelnao alias Priyokanta (30) son of kongpal Khaidem Leikai of Imphal east.

He was arrested based on the disclosure made by Laishram Gunamai who has been in the police custody after he was re-arrested from the Shajiwa Jail where he has been meeting NSA term, the source said.

Lakpa was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal, BK Sharma and remanded in the police custody for 10 days till July 4 for further interrogation on the case registered with the Imphal police station.

In the court, the IO of the case prayed to give remand to the arrestee till July 6 so that police could investigate further into the case.

However, the court remanded him in the custody till July 4 .

With the arrest of Lakpa, Imphal police have so far arrested five persons including one woman in connection with the abduction and subsequent murder of Krishnadas.

The woman named Ashalata has been sent to jail by the court while the other four including Lakpa are still in the police custody.
