Protest against bomb threat staged at Ngairakpam

Imphal, August 07 2009: "Undergrounds attack civilian houses and threatening people with guns and bombs, security forces also killed people in fake encounters, keeping the people in the midst of stones.

Now, we want arming to protect ourselves," said womenfolk participating in the sit-in protest held at Ngairangbam village in Imphal west district.

Womenfolk of the village today staged sit-in protest against placing of a hand grenade at the entrance gate of the house of one Sorokhaibam Mani (70) .

The China make hand grenade was discovered this morning at about 7.30.The bomb was later defused and disposed off by a combined team of police and troops of Maratha Light Infantry.

Family as well as villagers is yet to know the motive behind the placing of the bomb.

Speaking at the protest site, Th Leima, member of the Ngairakpam Meira Paibi Lup said that the placing of the bomb has greatly affected to the life of innocent villagers living with simple life.

They never want such kinds of act.

She further observed that Ngairangbam village is seems to be a place for killing people by the police commandos as well as by the undergrounds also and appealed to the authorities concern not to do such kinds of violent in the area in future.

At the sit-in protest site slogans like "We could not agree with the placing of bomb, we don't want killing people," etc.

They also expressed protest against the July 23 firing incident in crowded area that killed two people including a pregnant woman and injured to five others.
