The two rapist-murderers have been identified as Ipham Amir Khan (30) s/o I Babu Khan, a resident of Kwakta Khunou, presently residing at a rented house at Moreh Heinou Makhong and Achom Romen Singh (27) s/o (L) Achom Ibochoubi Singh of Moreh Heinou Makhong.

Producing the killer-duo before media persons somewhere in one of the hill districts of the state before awarding them capital punishment, the duo admitted that on January 22, at around 8pm, upon the insistence of Amir Khan, the two of them have a drink (beer) at the shop of the deceased Lamkholhing.

While the two drank the beer, Amir Khan forcibly insisted Lamkholhing to have a drink with them.

Seizing the opportunity when Lamkholhing was in an inebriated condition, Amir had robbed off the chastity of the physically abnormal lady on the bench located nearby, and then successively Romen did the same.

During the course, Lamkholhing did not shout for help, they admitted.

Fearing that there will be repercussions in case Mate spill out the incident to the people and after a meticulous planning, the two had done away her by strangulating Mate using the piece of cloth hanging on her body, they owned up.

It may be mentioned that Romen had once been served a jail term for allegedly raping a nine-year old girl way back in 2005 at Moreh.

Following this, the investigation team of the five outfits UNLF, RPF, KYKL, PREPAK and KCP have, after a detail investigation upon the two persons, summoned the two and were grilled about their involvement.

And later on, the investigation team came to confirm the involvement of the two in the rape and subsequent murder case.

The two have also admitted their wrongdoing themselves.

In a statement, the investigation team said that the two persons have been awarded death penalty as such incident could create animosity among the various communities who are living together, and can impress a feeling of disregard to womenfolk of the land.

It also warned that, cutting across various affiliations, the five outfits will not let the perpetrators of such crime go scot-free in the future, while adding that the perpetrators will be awarded punishment exactly the same as given to Amir and Romen.

The investigation team has also credited that the fact that they are able to punish the guilty persons in the case ahead of the government agency the police, is largely due to the help and support of the people shown to them.
