Imphal, May 02 2010: Ahead of the first phase election to the Autonomous District Councils, an all political parties meeting was held at the Lamphelpat office of State Election Commission today.

Presiding over the session, Commission's Secretary Th Chitra sought cooperation of the political parties to ensure free and fair conduct of the democratic exercise.

On their part, representatives of the political organisations, who attended the meet, highlighted the threats posed to prospective candidates and suggested that the commission allow the candidates to submit nomination papers at the Imphal office rather than to the Returning officers concerned.

With representatives of the political parties apprehending violence and insecurity of the candidates, Th Chitra assured all possible security measures for the protection of the candidates as was proposed by the political organisations.
