Fair trial to civilians: UNM-M

Imphal, February 09 2009: Referring to the vast number of killing incidents in the day to day environment of the state the District Network Committee (UNM-M) Bishnupur urged honorable political leaders, state and non-state actors to deal with the civilians of the state with fair trail while encountering the insurgency issue.

A press statement of UNM-M said that 497 deaths had been reported in the year 2008 and 56 persons had been killed since the starting of this year.

Among the killings, UNM-M also mentioned the shocking incidents of raping and murdering of Lamkhoting Marte at moreh and the indiscriminate firing by some unidentified persons at churchandpur during a public meeting killing a 25 year old girl and severely injuring 3 other.

UNM-M said that on an average 3-4 persons are killed daily in the state.

The public is horrified by the recent report of some security personnel of Indian Army in their civvies apprehending one young entrepreneur from his residence and threatening him to kill if he fails to pay a good amount of money.
