Imphal, April 18 2009: Unidentified gunmen shot at and critically injured a labourer engaged in digging a drain for irrigation purpose at a filed located adjacent to the Pungdongbam Lamkhai bazaar under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East yesterday around 7.30 pm.

According to report, the injured labourer is identified as one Oinam Amuthoi (44) son of (L) O Sanajaoba of Leimapokpam Awang Leikai.

Police said that the labourer was shot at as the contractor who employed him failed to meet the monetary demand served by some persons identifying themselves to be KCP-MC members.

The labourer was hit by a bullet at the left chest and he is said to be in a critical condition at Shija Hospital.
