Transporters say no to NH-39

Imphal, June 11 2010: A joint meeting of the associations of the drivers and owners of the vehicles engaged in transportation of petroleum products, LPG cylinders, tourist buses and good carriers has decided not to ply on National Highway 39 until and unless all the authorities concerned give an assurance that illegal taxes being collected by various NGOs, UG groups and Nagaland police will be stopped.

The joint meeting of the transporters held at the MG Avenue office of the Transporters and Drivers' Council, Manipur also decided that the transporters would suspend their services until and unless the Nagaland Government and the Central Government assure compensation for the damages caused to the vehicles during the cause of the economic blockade imposed by UNC, ANSAM and NSF.

Talking to mediapersons after the joint meeting, general secretary of the Council Ng Haridas informed that a memorandum highlighting the resolutions of the meeting would be forwarded to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, other Central leaders, Manipur Governor and Chief Minister.
